THE HISTORY OF MOVAC
Established in 1979, the Mohawk Valley Ambulance Corps Inc., known throughout the community as "MOVAC", has grown to provide primary ambulance services to communities in both Herkimer and Fulton Counties. MOVAC has transitioned from our original status as a solely volunteer medical staff, to a 24/7/365 career staff service. MOVAC currently employs both full and part time professional EMS providers, while also paying homage to our past through a volunteer executive board of directors. Our board members are local community leaders representing the various municipalities we serve.
PRESENT DAY
We respond to 911 and private line requests for both emergency and non-emergency transports through the utilization of eight state of the art ambulances. We also offer rapid advanced paramedic level intercept services with our paramedic fly car, provide firefighter rehabilitation and medical operational support services through the utilization of our special operations trailer, provide off-road and remote EMS response through use of our EMS Gator UTV, and sponsor a Medical Response Team (MRT) support to SWAT Special Response Team (SRT) police agencies of Herkimer County. MOVAC currently operates two stations; Station 1 which is located in the village of Mohawk, and Station 2 which is located in the village of Dolgeville. MOVAC will always remain a community based and supported organization of the Mohawk Valley.
